The plot of the story was interesting... Jack, born a wizard but lacking a wizard stone, is transplanted with a warrior stone, the rarest of the five guilds. Warriors are a dying breed due to the Game, a competition between warring wizard factions over control of all the guilds. In the Game, warriors are sent to fight for a side (White or Red Rose) to preserve the lives of wizards.
Jack grew up protected from the magical world, told that the scar over his heart is from a heart surgery, but when he turns sixteen and stops taking the medicine prescribed to help his heart (but it really suppress his powers) and things start happening that he can't explain...
A very interesting concept for a story, kind of Hunger Games like, but not as good. The beginning did sort of drag out, but the ending was better. Some of the characters were easy to connect with, but others were very boring and I wasn't sure why they were even a part of the story.
Overall, an enjoyable read, just not as great as I was hoping.
But I'm still going to read the rest of the series.

It was a very interesting concept, but I only liked the ending. And not enough to want to read the rest of the series.
I have this one from the library (f I ever get to it)... we'll see if I like it enough to continue the series.
I'll tell you... I'm having a hard time getting into the next book.
How is that possible? It has good ratings and reviews on goodreads.
I had a hard time getting into the first one, so I believe it. ;)
Okay... so I've gotten further into the book and it's gotten much better!
Bon.
